Fair value: CAD97.92 (+4.9%), see how we got there

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. trades at CAD93.34, close to the CAD97.92 our discounted cash flow model puts on the business. On this measure the market and the model broadly agree, so the interesting question is which of them is wrong.

Our moat model scores it 23 out of 100, which is little in the way of a moat. A moat is a structural reason competitors cannot take the profits away, and it matters more to a long holding period than any single quarter's numbers do.

Common questions

Is West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (WFG.TO) undervalued?

Against our discounted cash flow estimate of CAD97.92, WFG.TO at CAD93.34 is 5% below fair value. That is one model's answer, not a recommendation, and most of a DCF's output sits in a terminal value nobody can forecast.

Does West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (WFG.TO) pay a dividend?

Yes. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. yields 1.84% at the current share price. It has paid CAD1.77 per share over the trailing twelve months. It has paid a dividend in each of the last 35 complete calendar years. A dividend is declared by the board and can be cut at any time; a yield is a fact about the current price, not a promise.
